The Madeline Martini

This post is sponsored by Cost Plus World Market. The recipe and all opinions expressed here are my own. Thank you for supporting the sponsors who support Thirsty for Tea!Oh, how I love sweet Madeline! The tea cakes, the picture book, my 4-year-old niece (yes, her name is Madeline too!)… what else can I say but that I heart Madeline!I like to think of this Madeline Martini as a trip through France and down memory lane. These French cocktails are where classic meets fancy-free, a drink for the sophisticate who’s young at heart. A riff on an Earl Grey Martini, this cocktail’s vodka base is infused with vanilla almond black tea. The tea tastes nutty and creamy while some freshly squeezed citrus lends a bright pop of tartness.For a festive touch, I like to rim the martini glasses with sprinkles. Attach the crimson colored nonpareils with a thin, even dab of simple syrup. The final crown of glory is a mini madeleine, the traditional French butter cakes made for soaking up plenty of good tea!Scrumptious mini madeleines are dunked into this martini the same way that biscotti are dunked into wine. The rich, soft biscuits are prepped for the glasses by scoring the humped side of each cake.While you’re savoring your cocktail(s), flip through Ludwig Bemelmans’ award-winning picture book, Madeline. Adventuring through Paris and beyond, this mischievous little girl reminds us how frivolity can be fabulous!If you’re serving these for dessert, you might also want to check out Cost Plus World Market’s yummy collection of French foods and nibbles, like these Le Petit Normand Biscuits and Petites Baguettes Stick Cookies. Turn the pages, sip away, and prepare to be charmed by The Madeline Martini–she’s sweet with a side of feisty!

The Madeline Martini

Makes 2 cocktails.

Ingredients:

{Tea Infused Vodka}

1 cup of vodka (I used St. George’s All Purpose Vodka)

5 black tea bags (I used Republic of Tea’s Vanilla Almond Black Tea)

{For the Cocktail}

2 oz. Tea Infused Vodka

2 oz. simple syrup (I used Torani’s French Vanilla Syrup)

2 oz. orange juice

1 oz. lemon juice

ice

{Garnishes}

red nonpareils (I used Twinkle Baker Decor’s Fire Engine Red Beads)

2 madeleines (I used St. Michel’s Mini Madeleines)

Directions:

1. Infuse the Vodka. Combine the tea bags with the vodka, in a ratio of 5 tea bags per cup of vodka.2. Wait a Day. Let the infusion steep for at least 24 hours, ideally in a French Press. This will result in a dark, concentrated steep, just the strength you need for making tea-cocktails.
3. Prep the Glasses. Pour the sprinkles into a small, shallow dish. Dab an even, thin layer of simple syrup over the rims of the glasses. Turn each sticky glass rim upside down, then dip it into the sprinkles. Set the glasses aside.

4. Score the Madeleines. Use a sharp knife to score a 1/4″ slit on the humped side of each madeleine. 5. Attach the Madeleines. Gently push a slit cookie onto the edge of each martini glass.6. Make the Cocktail. Combine all the cocktail ingredients together with ice in a cocktail shaker and shake away!
